What I’ve Done is the second in this series, following Bones Don’t Lie (reviewed here), and while I had some issues with that one which kept me from really enjoying it, I can happily report this one didn’t have the same issues. I thoroughly enjoyed spending a lot more time in Morgan’s PoV this time around, figuring out the whodunnit along with her and her business partners, Lance and Sharp.
What I’ve Done begins with a young woman named Haley waking alone in an unfamiliar bed. Realising she may have had too much to drink the night before and gone home with someone she didn’t intend to, she’s planning to do a walk of shame when she realises to her horror that she’s covered in blood and there is a dead man on the ground.
Morgan is brought in as Haley’s defence attorney by her mother, an old connection of Sharp’s, and the team immediately start working on the case. There are heaps of red herrings, genuine leads, and twists and turns for the investigative trio to work through, and soon enough they’re breathing down the neck of the real culprit… which puts a massive target on all of them.
There’s plenty of suspense to go around, and some nice progression in Morgan and Lance’s romantic relationship for those who’ve been fans of this series from the beginning. A new character introduced feels like a potential love interest for Sharp as well, which I’d like to see. He’s too nice a guy not to be snapped up by some smart lady!
Five stars for an engaging, suspenseful read and a great addition to this series.
